Recreation and surroundings

The Tahkovuori ski resort, a spa and a golf club are in 35 kilometres from the cottages. During the winter there may also be an iceroad on Lake Syväri which shortens the route to Tahko. The recreational opportunities at Tahko are downhill skiing, cross country skiing, golf, horseback riding, bowling, biking, hiking, paddling etc. You can also reach Tahko from Varpaisjärvi by skiing the 28 kilometres long ski track.

The Church of Varpaisjärvi is an interesting sight. The church was designed by Josef Stenbäck and it was built in 1904 of local gray granite. In the architecture you can find styles typical to Art Nouveau and National Romanticism.

The sandy beaches of lake Älänne tempts both swimmers and sunbathers in the summer. There are also plenty of marked hiking trails, swamps for picking cloud berries, birdlife and other experiences that Finnish wildlife haves to offer.

The river Tiilikkajoki which flows south from lake Älänne is fit for canoeing with its rapids and canyons. The river flows to the lake Korpinen (10 km from the cottages), but there are rivers all the way from Älänne to the beaches of your holiday home. You can even reach the Baltic Sea by a marked waterway from lake Syväri.

The local power company and the fisheries have been planting pike-perches and trouts in the lake. There are also other species such as pike, bream, berch and other small fish. The fishing permits for Lake Syväri and Tiilikkajoki are also complimentary. The fishing licence has to be bought from the post office.

The cottages are close to the forest where you can pick mushrooms and berries. If you want to hunt you should ask the owner of the forest for permission. The area is well suited for cross country skiing and there are many skiing tracks nearby, also on ice.
